Vision Number 1

Delaware River Twin Towers The twin towers, one stands tall in Camden or close by the city and the other tower stands in the Philadelphia waterfront area. Both towers can accommodate helo landing platforms and media transmission stations. The helos could assist with emergencies and for traffic control etc. Connecting the twin towers is a pedestrian bridge filled with restaurants and shops. Glass windows on both sides of the bridge offer views of the Delaware River traffic and city lights at night, and glass ceilings to view the stars. Restaurants constructed within the bridge would offer unprecedented views. One section of one of the restaurants might include an all glass floor area with seating and table all constructed in unique colored glass of the finest artwork. Directly below the chain of department stores is a transit system making
in between stops. It's time to cease making knee jerk decisions regarding the future of the waterfront and to start thinking really big. And when I mention big, I do not mean crappie artwork like the ridiculous Rocky statue, a chrome kite that looks like bumper from some 1960 automobile, or some idiotic advertisement for clothes pins. If the city of Philadelphia wants to make some serious changes - I am available. Don't be surprised if I suggest that the city take down some of the crap. Mummers need not apply, chicken feathers are so yesterday. Foreign visitors wants to see a refreshing parade, not the same clowns year after year wearing grandpas costume. How many eggs do the Mummers have to lay before the city of Philadelphia to take a bold step by suggesting the Mummers tested positive for the bird flu. Los Vegas attracts tourist by constantly changing the real-estate much like many of us repaint interior walls or replace the wallpaper. The twin towers would be so unique they could attract visitors for the next two hundred years and beyond. There is much more... |

My other vision is to see a tunnel constructed between Westville NJ and the Philadelphia Navy base under the Delaware River. The tunnel could easily be built at the end of Broad Street,
Phila. at the end of pier #1. Potential penetration of the aquifer is not an issue and
there is no way such a tunnel would have an adverse effect of the underground
fresh water system. First of all, much of the fresh water supply comes
from farther north up river. Secondly, to assume stirring up the ground
level underneath the Delaware River can possible contaminate existing
underground wells is voodoo scientific studies. Tunneling under the
river is no more dangerous to the aquifer, anymore than the heavy metals
that presently rest at the bottom of the Delaware River. Note: the Phila. Navy base is now called the business district. |
